I installed the hood so I could paint the stripe on before the cold weather. Using a 1/2" thick block of dense foam to back up the 1000 grit sandpaper, I wet sanded the cowl and hood. After most of the "orange peel", dust and bug parts where gone, I went over it again with 1500 and then finaly 2000 grit sandpaper. After this the finish looked as dull as red primer, my neighbours thought I was nuts! For the next step I got out the buffer and some Meguiar's #1 Medium-cut cleaner and buffed it up (scarey part). After most of the scratches where gone, I went over it with Meguiar's #2 Fine-cut Cleaner, and finally some #9 Swirl Remover. When the buffing was complete, I masked off the hood with 3M fine line tape and painted the hood and stripe with the same semi-gloss black that I painted the engine compartment with. Finally I put some wax on for a real high gloss.

Out for a little sun, it is starting to look like Mustang! I use those large nylon washers between the bolts and the paint so I do not scratch the paint while getting everything aligned. After everythig is in the right place, I remove them one at a time.

Here I have installed some of the grill parts. I picked up the complete grill, with the stone guard and hood latch bracket for $35. It was beat up, but the chrome was good and I restored the rest. It has the cutouts for the GT fog lights, but was missing the lamp mounting brackets, which are avaliable as reproductions. The large curved trim pieces I also picked up cheep and just buffed them up a little and re-painted the silver parts.
