  • The Live-In Caregiver Program

There is a need in Canada for Caregivers to fill available positions, the Live-In Caregiver Program is the route to get you there. A Live-In Caregiver is someone who provides continuous, full-time, unsupervised care of children, the elderly or the disabled in a private household.

An offer of employment to a potential Caregiver from abroad may be approved by the Human Resource Centres of Canada (HRCC) only when the counsellor is satisfied that the employer has searched for a local caregiver but has failed. Employers must demonstrate they made reasonable efforts to recruit Canadians, Permanent Residents or foreign Caregivers already in Canada.

Nanny Express will assist in the completion of documentation for a potential applicant and will provide the necessary resources for the application process.

Live-In as a Condition of Employment

Labour Market information indicates no shortage for live-out Caregivers in Canada.

In some instances the need for a live-in may be justified as a condition of employment.

    Some types of live-in needs:

    1. The employer works irregular hours on a regular basis (ie. Shift Work, split work). NOTE:Long hours do not equate irregular hours. Caregivers cannot be considered to be available on call 24 hours per day. Employers must outline hours of work on the application form.
    2. The employer resides in a rural area that is not readily accessible by public transit.
    3. The employer must travel overnight on a regular basis, as part of the employer's work.
    4. The employer can demonstrate that sincere efforts to hire a caregiver locally on a live-out basis have been unsuccessful

The employer is required to show a need for a live-in caregiver.
