The '67 Z-28 Network

The '67 Z-28 Network

One of the most satisfying parts of the collector car hobby for me is being able to help other enthusiasts find information, parts or the car of their dreams.  This was the primary goal behind starting the '67 Z-28 Owners Group.  I get weekly calls and emails from a number of '67 Z-28 enthusiasts and owners asking questions or telling me about cars/parts that they have for sale or are searching for.  The '67 Z-28 Network has been created to make it easier for enthusiasts to make these contacts without necessarily being involved in a "club".  There are no membership fees or commissions etc.  This is just my way of giving a little back to the hobby that I enjoy so much.  Please click on the link at the bottom of the page  to learn more about the Network or '67 Z-28's in general.

Background

In March of 1998, I stumbled across a 1967 Z-28 near my home in Ontario, Canada.  Having owned some 25 plus Camaros as a teenager, I knew how rare this car was and I was determined to make it mine!  Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, I could not convince the owner that he should part with his car and it still sits in the garage where it has been for the past 20 years!.

Since I was bitten by the "Z-bug", I decided to begin a search for another '67 Z-28 to purchase.  I began searching the internet and thanks to Camaro enthusiast Rich Fields, I was put in touch with Jon Mello.  Jon is an avid '67 Z-28 enthusiast and owner and he was very helpful in locating my first, and second, 1967 Z-28 Camaros.  I owe Jon a debt of gratitude for this and for all of the knowledge he has shared with me concerning '67 Z28s.

In November 1999, I formed the '67 Z-28 Owners Group in an effort to put '67 Z-28 owners in touch with one another.  The goal of the group was to share information and develop a better understanding of these rare and fascinating cars.  The group grew quite quickly and within six months we had 16 members representing 20 1967 Z-28s!  Later in 2000, my wife and I had our first child and caring for our little guy soon left us with little free time.  On top of this, I decided that it was time to upgrade my education and enrolled in a part-time MBA program.  Soon, I found myself with absolutely no free time to play with my cars and it was torturous to see them sitting in the garage collecting dust.  So, I decided that I would sell them and get out of the hobby until I had more time to devote to it.  Since I no longer owned a '67 Z, I had to leave the Owners Group, but I remain in touch with the majority of the members.

Our son is nearly a year old now and we have gotten over the shock of how demanding a little one can be.  I have also found a study schedule that allows me at least a few hours of free time each week.  As most car nuts can imagine, having free time and an empty garage just won't do.  So, I am on the hunt again for another '67 Z-28!  Please contact me at 67z28owner@sympatico.ca if you know of a car that might possibly be for sale.

Update: October 20, 2001

Our son is 18 months old today and we just learned that another little one is on the way!  How time flies...it seems like it was just yesterday that we were waiting for Matthew to arrive.

I just completed the first year of my MBA studies and have the next 2 months off to recharge.  Although the workload is fairly demanding, we have found a schedule that we I can live with for the remaining 18 months of the program.

On the car front there have been a few recent developments.  My wife and I decided that we would splurge a little and buy ourselves a new car.  So, after a little persuasion from me, we are waiting on delivery of our new 2002 Quicksilver Z06 Corvette!  I can't wait.  405 horse power with quarter mile times of 12.4 seconds!  This will be our official "date" car for those rare occasions where we get out for a few hours by ourselves.  I have also been continuing my search for a '67 Z-28.  This past summer I investigated at least a half dozen cars, but none of them were exactly what I was looking for.  I came very close to making a purchase this past week, but again the deal was just not right for me.  So, the search continues.  As mentioned above, I would appreciate any leads that some one would be willing to pass along to me.

The '67 Z-28 Network has started off very well.  After the first 6 months, I have been fortunate enough to communicate with 7 '67 Z-28 owners that I did not know previously and helped add 2 more Z-28's to the registry.  I will be updating the site over the next few months and will include pages on the 2 '67 Z-28's that I have owned so far and a page on the "Black Panther" Camaro from Gorries' Chevrolet in Toronto, Ontario.

Thanks,

Mark Kane
