In order to earn the title Field Champion (FCh)a Sighthound must earn 100 points and have one first, with competition or two second placings. This is more difficult to acheive as, in Canada, we have only Open Stakes and that means that all dogs, both Field Champions of record and dogs aspiring to be field champions compete against one another for the available points.
To earn the title Field Champion Excellent (FChX) a dog must earn a total of 300 points, that's 200 points more than required for the Field Champion title. He must also earn 5 first placings against competition and those placing earned while fulfilling the Field Champion title count.
Earning a coursing title may be easier for some breeds as they have more than enough dogs competing to ensure 40 points are earned by the dog placing first, it is sometimes difficult for breeds that have one or two dogs running in the area. That elusive first or two seconds can be very difficult to earn if you're the only one running your chosen breed, never mind trying to earn 100 points at four (4) points at a time. With no more than 20 trials per year in any given area it could take two years or longer for some dogs to earn their Coursing Championship all because of lack of competition.
