AKM / AK-74

The AKM and AK-74 are essentially updated versions of the famous AK-47 assault rifle. These versions came along in the 60ís and 70ís respectively. Since I donít have the appropriate bakelite style mag I canít really use the AK-74 designation but this is correct for the 7.62x39mm AKM.

This AK started life as a TM clone and had most components replaced or modified. It was fitted with an Element metal body and a china made wood kit.  The metal body came with a plastic AK74 grip but I prefered the feel of the wood one in hand. I found the finish on the wood was not very good so it was removed and the wood restained Gunstock before applying a Tung oil finish. The vented upper handguard was scratch-built from some brass plumbing, and the gas tube was modified to the AKM style.

The flash-hider was scratch-built from some components I had in my toolbox and I never got around to replacing it.

The result is a solid heavy feel and is night & day nicer than holding a stock airsoft weapon. I traded this AK a while ago and hope her new owner is enjoying it as much as I did.
