MP- 40 / Schmeisser

The German Maschinen Pistole MP-40, erroneously nicknamed “Schmeisser” by the Allies of World War II, was a submachine gun primarily used by SS and German paratrooper units.  The MP-40 was mass produced by use of stamped sheet metal receivers with bakelite grip panels. The Airsoft version I obtained had black plastic grip panels which needed to be painted to simulate the bakelite of the era.

I didn’t want it to look like it just came out of the factory, so I gave it the steel wool treatment to rough up the finish and allow some metal to show through.

Owners of the AGM version may note that I removed the reinforcing plate which was limiting the travel of the bolt handle. This modification is a bit tricky but the effect is a more realistic looking submachine gun and well worth doing.

Obligatory disclaimer:  I can only show you what worked for me. I will not be responsible for players screwing up their precious airsoft guns by doing something wrong. I can give you my opinion but modify at your own risk.
