Lightning? Dragonboat cancelled? NOT A CHANCE IN HELL!

6pm and 8pm were cancelled. 7pm kicked ass!

1 June 2004
6:00 pm
So I decide to bike down to dragonboat practice. Stupid me. First I get buffetted by insane winds coming off the lake. Woo! Swaying like a palm tree except I'm on a bike!
6:40 pm
I fight through that and get to Sunnyside alive. EVERY BOAT IS IN THE DOCKS. Waters just breaking over the breakwater, waters choppy and we've got GREEN FLARES!!!....er....water crests. Can it get ANY better?! I pledge that if a lightning storm starts I'm out of there. That's when the torrential downpour starts. At least some of Mt. Sinai's team(Roger and five others) are there to suffer with me.
6:50 pm
Ray shows up and Dragonboat Race crew decide that the wind and rain have died down enough that we can practice. Curse you RAY!
7:00 pm
WE PRACTICE! A good 16 of us showed(God I'm tired today)
7:45 pm
So it's coming time to practice our starts when off in the distance....LIGHTNING! Aw hell, we're heading back in....but Coach thinks otherwise. Oh well, he's tallest in the boat and standing in the back(away from me). Plus he promised to hold up his metal pen to deflect all that electricity. You GO DOM!
7:50 pm
Three practice starts done. Definitely a lightning storm coming so we head back in. Of course we see three teams BEHIND us still on the water. Guess which boat Ray's on. Mt. Sinai LIGHTNING.
8:00 pm - 9:00 pm
We all make it in safe and sound. 8pm practice cancelled. Boo-yah! A few of us decide to wait out the storm and toss back a few at Sunnyside Cafe. Wearing a PFD does make a body warmer.
7pm practice teams......OOOO-RAH!!!!!
