Frequently Asked Questions

We receive a huge number of appraisal/reference questions each week by e-mail, but most are variations of those listed below:

Q. Is my item worth having appraised?

A. We won't know until we've examined the information and images you have provided, but our statistics from 1996-2001 indicate that less than 2% of the items we have examined have been worth less than $15.00.  If you feel that your item could worth less than our fee use our Quick Answers for Antique Questions service.

Q. What items don't you appraise?

A. We can provide appraisals for most antique & collectible items with the exception of coins, stamps and textile products such as quilts, clothing and tapestries.

Q. What happens if you are unable to provide me with an appraisal for my item?

A. We would provide you with a full refund for that item via the PayPal secure payment system.

Q. I'm nervous about making payments online, how safe is it?

A. We use the PayPal secure payment system which uses the same encryption programs as all the major banking and financial institutions and is insured by Travelers insurance for transactions up to $100,000.
If you wish to mail us your payment ( check or international money order) our office address is Wilcox & Hall Online, 79 Purdy St., Belleville, Ontario, Canada K8P1Z2, all payments to be made out to
Wilcox & Hall Online.

Q. I would like to sell my collection, are you interested in buying it or where would be the best place to market it?

A. We operate strictly as an appraisal/reference information service, we are not in the business of buying, selling or acting as a sales agent on any customer's behalf.

Q. Who can I call or where can I go for a free appraisal?

A. There are several places you can get free appraisals, we have a list of 26 you can access at our Free Appraisals Page.

Q. I'm looking for a local appraiser to look at my collection, could you recommend one?

A. You can access several professional appraisal associations that list the members by specialty and area by clicking here.

Q. I need information about my item, where can I find this information on the internet.

A. You are already there ;~) We offer some of the lowest cost* appraisal/reference services for a full range of antiques & collectibles available and all on one site.
