About the Author Alfred
Aquilina was born in Valletta on the Mediterranean
island of Malta. As a young child he moved with his family
to Exeter, Ontario, Canada where he grew up. He graduated
with a Bachelor of Social Work Degree from the University of
Western Ontario in London. He later continued his studies at York
University in Toronto where he received his Master of Social Work
Degree.
His move to the Mackenzie Delta in the
Northwest Territories in 1975 inspired him to research the rich
history of the area. As a supervisor and Regional
Superintendent for the Department of Social Services he has lived
in Aklavik, Inuvik and Fort Smith, and traveled extensively to
all regions of the N.W.T. It was this northern exposure
that led Aquilina to write The Mackenzie - Yesterday
and Beyond as well as a collection of poetry.
His next move was to northern Alberta in 1981,
and in 1986 to northern Ontario where he still lives.
Traveling throughout Canada in various
capacities, Alfred Aquilina has had the privilege of spending
much of his professional life working with Aboriginal
communities.
