The Angel of Confession
for Anne Sexton

The Angel of Confession

ripped

plaster casts off legs of nothing,

flushed

smug smiles down hospital sewers,

yanked

dead stars out by the roots,

plucked

cold eyes from warm masks,

pierced

ugly hearts of family secrets,

chewed

toxic truths to anguished pulp.

Memory Stew

In the healing season
a woman collects
memory roots
at deep hole point
by the witness tree.

She boils them
in angry juices,
their pungent stench
snaking through
her subconscious kitchen.

These toxic vapours
of lost time,
escape
into mental forests,
withering
huge trees of pain,
exposing
an infinite sky
of forgotten wishes.
