Book Blurb

April A. Severin is known for her concise, perceptive poetry. This collection is no exception; these qualities illuminate her exploration of different aspects of "opening" and what it means to be open. April's voice moves us; asks that we pause, observe and reflect upon the world around us. Her journeys range from the personal to experiences of the natural world, culminating with vibrancy and depth in the splendid title poem, Opening.
- Eleanore Kosydar

Opening

Another world opens
ascending
fifteen hundred feet
to Angel's Landing
Zion National Park

Another world opens
hiking
among Hoodoos
in Bryce Canyon,
top of the Grand Staircase

Another world opens
in Monument Valley
sitting in Big Hogan
standing by Ear of the Wind
looking through Eye of the Sun

Another world opens
walking
through desert sand
eyeing Anasazi ruins
in Canyon De Chelly

Another world opens
descending
three thousand feet
to Plateau Point
Grand Canyon

Through earthly openings
of otherworldly beauty
I open
