BUSINESS 2 BUSINESS - AVENUE ROAD

Avenue Road is a music business consultancy owned and operated by Nigel Newton.

Nigel Newton cut his music business teeth in the UK as a club resident and after hours house party DJ in the 1980s who by day managed design businesses. His dual talents landed him the post of General Manager at One Little Indian Records (home to Björk and The Shamen) in the UK in 1991.

He emigrated to Canada and in 1994 joined up with Quality Records as National Promotion Manager to market and promote DanceMix 94. Within a year with the success of diamond selling DanceMix 95 and the launch of the platinum Chris Sheppard's Pirate Radio Sessions series, he was promoted to Marketing Director. His continued success with The Macarena, Whigfield, DanceMix 96 and Dogwhistle; Juno awards for BKS and Ghetto Concept; and effective management of international label deals brokered at Midem, including Stress, Fresh and Strictly Rhythm, earned him the position of VP, A&R and Promotion.

After a period as a consultant with Warner Strategic Projects, he picked up the programming of the dance channel for the CBC's continuous music service, Galaxie. Around the same time Al Mair invited him to join Attic Music as Marketing Director. Managing the Roadrunner, Edel and Metal Blade labels in Canada, re-launching rapper Maestro Fresh Wes as "Maestro" with the smash hit "Stick To Your Vision (These Eyes)" and introducing R&B ingenue Jazmin with her debut "Better Be Good" and the club classic "Don't Push".

When The Song Corporation bought out Attic in 1999, Nigel became VP, Marketing. As Song amalgamated Attic, Oasis and TMP he took the title VP, Strategic Marketing and directed the campaigns for Slipknot, Baha Men, Tom Jones, The Grapes of Wrath, Pocket Dwellers and The Special Guests! In January 2001, as the twilight hours dawned on Song, Nigel switched to VP, Business Development responsible for all new deals, labels and artist relations across the board.

Currently working with Quebec club, radio and TV DJ personality, Daniel Desnoyers, to expand the D-Noy Muzik compilation label, (one of the DKD Group of Labels), into English speaking Canada, Nigel sustains a strong position in the independent music sector in Canada.
