Runners, walkers and cyclists of all ages
share in community spirit!
The Diefenbooker Classic has proven to be a huge success for the promotion of health in the community, and for fundraising for the West Carleton Branches of the Ottawa Public Library. This will be our ninth year.
Last year we had over 400 participants from all over the region and as far away as Kingston. Over $14,000 was raised to support improvements at the satellite library branches in Carp, Fitzroy Harbour and Constance Bay.
During the race, runners and walkers will be directed through the blast tunnel of the “Diefenbunker”, the former National Defence facility now known as Canada’s Cold War Museum. Cyclists will travel fully paved routes through rural West Carleton township. The short races will be held within the Fairgrounds in Carp. All routes are well marked, and races will be timed by Bill Williams race timing service.
Race results for the 5 km and 10 km runs will be posted in each library branch and will also be available online. The full list of award winners will be published in community newspapers.
The Diefenbooker Classic promotes community fun, pleasant touring of the rural landscape, as well as serious racing with strong regional runners. Photographs of all previous races are on display in the Carp Branch of the Ottawa Public Library.
Once again, our title sponsor is the West Carleton Medical-Dental Center, including the West Carleton Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic. Support from both new and returning sponsors is fabulous.
