Empowerment and healing through
creative arts

What is it ?
Expressive Arts Therapy is a form of psychotherapy and personal empowerment which incorporates the ancient healing power of the arts. Beyond entertainment, the arts inform and transform us. Through the use of visual and literary arts, music, movement and drama one may explore and express the authentic self.
How is it different from ordinary therapy?
The work is not limited to words alone. You can beat your frustration on a drum, paint big or create a world in miniature. Sing or dance your heart out in a safe and protected space - an exciting matrix for your imagination.
If I'm not an artist will Expressive Arts Therapy work for me?
Art-making is to adults what play is to children. Coming from your core, the arts use all of your intellect and emotion, intuition and imagination, body, mind and soul. You have all the skill you need to express yourself. As your expressive abilities expand, your technique will increase naturally.
Issues explored and addressed include:
• stress, depression, anger, anxiety, loss • crises and life transitions
• substance abuse (alcohol, drugs) • intimate / social relationships
• adult children of alcoholics issues • family of origin issues
• childhood trauma • creative blocks
Lois also does relationship counselling, couple counselling and marriage counselling.
Lois is a graduate of ISIS-Canada and holds a master's degree in expressive arts therapy and counselling,
and a clinical member of the Ontario Society of Psychotherapists. In addition to her individual and group work with adults, she has several years clinical experience in various adolescent education and day treatment centres dealing with developmental delay, substance abuse and behavioral problems.
