........................................................................................ .                                  ABOUT FOUR HOURS INTO THE PROJECT

This is a manifold based on the Weind superstock manifold built for the six-pack Cudas. We needed a good tunnel ram style for the 440 project we were working on, but most of the tunnel rams if not all were built from a design that did not meet the port at the proper angle(straight-on) and had runners that were too short to be effective for the RPM range common to the 440. This manifold was always one of the very best designs ever, but came only set up for a sixpack. eventually it was offered with a dominator lid, but never with two fours. We fabricated a prototype from plywood and sealed it appropriately. Right off the trailer we ran the best time ever and picked up 1.5 mph trap speed. Now that may not seem like much but it takes a LOT of power to add 1.5 mph to a 4150 .lb car. We figure we gained 30 to 40 hp over our best single four set-up and about 40/50 hp over our best 2x4 set-up. The reduction in ET was also significant because it is not always there with an increase in speed. This tells me it is making power over a fairly broad range which is what we needed.

We had it recast in aluminum by a local foundry and after a couple of days of machining and polishing this is what it looks like. The aluminum one gave the same results. We used the Carters as we had used them on the 2x4 manifold we ran before. We used the same carbs so we wouldn't fudge the results. We have been trying to get Holley to bring this back into production with this lid as the runners of this manifold are some of the best ever designed for a big block Mopar. We designed the lid and carb spacing so Holleys could be used as well. Some of you may have seen the article in Chrysler Power on this project.
