To remember the members of the Canadian 58th (Central Ontario) Battalion, we are asking all visitors to this site to view at least one page of the online Books of Rememberance, record the names of the 58th Battalion members who lost their lives, and summarize the story of the men by viewing their Attestation pages on the Library and Archives Canada site. To date, our visitors have completed 86 of the 482 possible pages of the Books.
If you have a half hour to spare, see the 58th Battalion page for more instructions.

Also, we need any stories, pictures of graves, or pictures of soldiers in the Canadian 4th CMR, 43rd, 52nd, 58th, or 46th Battalions who were Killed in Action or wounded on October 26, 1917 at Passchendaele.

The Royal Regiment of Canada is having a Sorel Day parade at the Old Fort York Armory,
660 Fleet Street West, at Garrison Road, (near the Princess Gates of the Exhibition) in Toronto. The parade is held every year on the second Sunday in June. The Friends and public are invited.

On Feb 23, 2006 the 58th Company of The Royal Regiment of Canada had a CO parade and presentation to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the CEF 58th Battalion landing in France. Part of the presentation included laying a wreath by the Friends of the 58th and playing the Last Post --- the Fighting 58th is still carrying on to some degree today.

The Four Founding Friends (Benjamin, Gord, Ian, and Kevin) have got together every year in October since their pilgrimage
Back to the Front in 2002. As always, other Friends are welcome to join us.

The Friends of the 58th sometimes attend the Remembrance Service at the Church of the Transfiguration, 111 Manor Road East, near Eglinton and Yonge, in Toronto, M4S 1R4. This unique service by The Reverend Canon Michael Burgess starts at 10:30 AM and includes the playing of the Last Post by Sam Cancellara. One of the Friends is sometimes invited to present a short reflection about the CEF 58th Battalion. After the service, cookies, coffee, and tea are available and the Friends go for lunch at the Longest Yard on Mt Pleasant Road.
-
In 1921, the Church of the Transfiguration was founded by Major Canon Charles Hedley, one of the chaplains of the 58th during the Great War, and the Church is the home of the 58th Batallion flags.
