6 - Understanding the Menu and Toolbar Commands

This chapter summarizes the commands available from the 7 Tapestry drop-down menus:

This chapter also summarizes the commands available from the 12 Tapestry toolbar command buttons:

Introduction

You can easily edit your Web page by using the Tapestry drop-down menu and toolbar commands. The menu commands are called drop-down menus because they are displayed from the menu bar. The menu bar is the rectangular area at the top of the window that contains the Tapestry commands (for example, File -> Open...). The toolbar is the bar below the menu bar that contains the command icons (for example, Back).

The ellipsis or the three dots (...) following a menu command shows that the command needs more information to be completed. After you choose a command with an ellipsis, a dialog box appears so you can type additional information or perform another command.

In this book we use the menu command convention to describe an an action (for example, File -> Open...). It means: From the File menu, choose the Open command. In addition to using a menu command for an action, you can also type a combination of keys (for example, Command-O to open a file). This typing of keys is sometimes called a "command shortcut".

For more information on conventions in this book, see the section Conventions in This Book in the chapter, "About This Book".

The File menu commands and their purpose are summarized as follows.

Export Text... Displays a directory dialog box that allows you to copy the text (but not the HTML tags) from your Tapestry document to a file on your hard drive or floppy disk.

For example, GIF files are classified as a MIME type of images and a subtype of GIF (image/gif). This dialog box is for expert users familiar with Netscape Navigator helper applications. Most Tapestry users do not need to use this command.
