Richard Brath Biography
Visualization
Richard has been actively involved in the design and development of information
visualization and design software over the 18 last years with an emphasis on creating
innovative visual solutions that solve real-world business needs from conception through
to full enterprise scale implementation.
Richard has presented papers on visualization in academic settings and
business conferences, including IEEE
Visualization, HCI
International, SPIE Visualization
and Data Analysis, The Data Warehousing
Institute, DCI Data warehousing,
Comdex, Internet World, Siggraph, and conferences focused on performance management, e-Business, data
mining, finance, supply chain, defense and intelligence.
Background
Richard is a partner at Oculus, where he has worked
with a core group of people since 1990. Originally starting in industrial design and special effects at
Alias (aquired by Autodesk in 2006) and Side
Effects, the group saw an emerging opportunity for solving complex business problems through
the use of interactive 3D visualization. Early visualizations were created on SGI and SUN workstations, and current solutions range from multi-storey, multi-screen displays; to visualizations embedded in third-party desktop software and visualizations that run in standard web browsers.
Richard holds a Masters of Computer Science from
University of Toronto (1999)
as well as a Bachelors of Architecture with
Minor in Computer Science (1990) and
a Bachelors of Environmental Studies (1987) from University of
Waterloo, Canada.
He lives in Toronto with his family and cat.
