"It's so powerfully written, particularly the betrayal plot involving the two women and the development of their relationship through the events in the war that they experience. All the characters are very believable.You can't put the book down because you have to find out: How are they going to survive everything that's happening to them? The imagery using music and horses is incredible. While Marla's torture and the night of Kristallnacht is described with such brutal honesty that the phrase, Lest We Forget, takes on new meaning, the author's treatment of German characters is surprisingly compassionate. She paints the Holocaust from a new perspective. It would make a terrific movie."
