The tractor started off as a Bolens 16hp. gas. I removed the engine rebuilt the chassis and made metal motor and jack shaft mounts. I kept the original drive line which is a drive shaft running lengthwise connected to a right angle gear reduction box then a pulley with clutch and belt drive to the rear transaxle. I adapted a coupler with pulley at the motor shaft. The pulley drives the jack shaft with a pulley belt tensioner operated by a lever. I made angle iron battery holders two up front and two in the rear. Added a tow bar for the garden trailer and for moving other trailers..
The motor is a D&D ES-15A-6 48-72, controller Alltrax NPX4844, throttle PB-5, contactor Ametek SW180-753. I used four batteries running the system on 48 volts. The motor develops approximately 8hp. The throttle is operated via a foot lever with roller blade wheel. It is very smooth. The transaxle has 4 forward gears and one reverse. The tractor is very smooth in any gear. The controller works very well with this motor. The jack shaft runs lengthwise over the motor and is driven via a pully attached to the motor. A pully is attached to the front of the jackshaft. The V belt runs down from this pully to two adjustable idler pullies mounted to the front of the frame. The v belt turns 90 degrees which routes it to the the cutting deck. I tried to source the components locally but was met with part numbers and i am not sure. I ended up making one email and one phone call to Electric Vehicles USA located in South Carolina. I had all the components in 10 days delivered to the door at about 40% less than local prices. Contact www.electricvehiclesusa.com
