A garbage solution?

Toronto continues to search for solutions to its shameful waste-generating habits (Battle Over Dumpsite Looms As Landfill Closes Dec. 31). I offer an approach that would, if nothing else, spare southern Ontario from being choked by diesel fumes from the 130 trucks needed daily to haul Toronto trash to Michigan.

First, put a landfill site in every federal riding for use by its residents. Second, charge $3 a bag to take away garbage. With luck, between the stench and the cost of garbage inherent in this proposal, it would prompt citizens to finally get serious about reducing waste.
