Richmond Hill, Ont. -- As our Prime Minister ponders his next moves, here's a suggestion: make federal funding to the provinces contingent on their enacting legislation to impose 90 km/hour speed limits on all major highways. Such legislation would be especially beneficial in Ontario, where the 100 km/hour posted limit is routinely exceeded on all 400-series highways, resulting in a precipitous drop in fuel efficiency. This lowered limit would also have huge symbolic value: It is finally time to slow down, so that the environment takes less of a hit.
