The auction has become an annual fundraiser of donated items to fund research by and about Canadian Muslim women. It has helped fund a study by McGill University on attitudes in Canadian Muslim women who do and don't wear hijab. The auction has also helped fund Sadia Zaman's upcoming book on early Muslim women in Canada. (Zaman is a journalist with Vision TV's Skylights.)
The Canadian Council of Muslim Women is a national non-profit voluntary
organization established in 1982 to assist Muslim women in participating
effectively in Canadian society and to promote mutual understanding
between Canadian Muslim women and women of other faiths. The Council
invites representation from across Canada. The Council has Chapters
across Canada. Canadian Muslim women must develop their Muslim identity,
make significant contributions to Canadian society and provide positive
role models for Muslim youth.
