Example  of  Chinese  Translation  for  Tattoos : "Love"

"Love" is an important but rather confusing word in English.
It is used for  many different feelings and things.
It is much, much less confusing in Chinese, where
"Love" is represented by two (2) different words,
corresponding to two similar but distinct states of mind: that of
"Longing" and that of "Loving". We shall explain below:-

This is the word for "Longing". The table below shows the words and
phrases which are applicable to this state of mind. The words in
italics correspond to the Chinese words on the right. Notice that the
word "Love" or "Loving" is used in English in many places where the
word "Longing" should have been used instead.

I have my eyes for her. (I have a longing for her)
He is a great lover. ("Lover" as in the art of "loving")
We had a love affair. (We had an episode of longing)
She is so apathetic. (She is so without love)
She is so easy to fall in love. (She has many longings)

This is the word for "Loving" or "Love". The table below
shows words and phrases which are applicable to this state of mind.
Again, the words in italic correspond to the Chinese words on
the right. In the Chinese language, the differences between "Longing"
and "Loving" are that "Loving" is un-conditional acceptance,
committal, mutual, and unshakable whereas "Longing" is physical
attraction, often one-sided and can be changed easily from one
target person to another.

I Love you.
We are lovers.
Mother's Love.
Mutual Love.
