Thebes In Egypt

06 Apr 2002

Who: Nigel and Helen Strudwick

What: Thebes In Egypt

Where: The Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto

When: May 2000

Why: I had just popped in to do some sketching in the Egyptian gallery; I had wanted to draw some fish off the Punt wall. An hour later, I had copied what looks like a cartoon fish into my notebook. It looks like it should have taken about 5 minutes to draw.

Having a couple of hours to kill, I dropped into the Egyptian Art In The Age Of The Pyramids show (again), and had a lovely time visiting with some of the nicest works of the Old Kingdom I've been lucky to see. On the way out of the show, you pass near a gift shop. You can't be real museum show without a gift shop, can you?

I found this among the books for sale, and bought it as much to give money to the museum as anything. As it turns out, there are lots of maps and reasonably detailed text.

No Narmer palette.
