The Talented Mr. Ripley

06 Apr 2002

While in sunny Manchester, I was asked just about the most perplexing question I've ever been asked at a theater: "Standard or Superior?" Even after having it explained to me, twice, I still can't figure out what I was being asked -- one ticket allowed you to sit anywhere, the other only in the back row, or anywhere except the back row, or something like that. Even now, I just shake my head in the complexity of it all. I think I opted for the faintly cheaper option, which was definitely the right choice, since the theatre was empty and no one was sitting where I wanted to be, and so I guess that all worked out well.

The movie was a bit of a loss though. While it looked good, and sounded good, I really didn't care much about the characters, and so why go on?

There is one reason. Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Is he in every American film right now? Not that I mind, just asking.
