||The Book of Life was a great end to the Festival. In years
gone by, the final film was often cancelled or else just
so bad that it had to be walked out on ('97, '96, ...)
For once it ends with a bang, and very tired, I wind my
way back to my mother's place. Tomorrow is ticketless,
and the possibilities are endless.
Jan 2, 1999: While scanning the
year-end obituaries, I came across David Overbey's name.
He died at the end of December. Overbey was a programmer
at the festival, and though I found his judgement a bit
dodgy at times, I nevertheless admired him for having
what I consider the ideal job, one that allowed him to
service his obvious passion for cinema.
