Watch "IDSF World Latin Championships" on TV Mon 2007-12-10

The "IDSF World Standard Championships" is a competition where some of the world's best ballroom dancers to compete for the prestigious 2007 IDSF Championship. The competition features the five dances of the Standard section (Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep).

It is on the Bravo channel. In Toronto, it can be seen on Rogers cable 40, 9:00-10:00pm.

Come out and watch local Ontario and Quebec latin-ballroom competitors. The "DanceSport for Charities" competition is at the Rameses Banquet Hall, 3100 Keele St (near Sheppard). Outing for Latin-Ballroom students Fri 2007-11-23

There is an official outing Fri Nov 23 to Westway Club for Latin-Ballroom students at all levels. This is your end-of-term dance outing. Please check your emails for details.

Westway Club is located on 291 Evans St - please click here for a map. It starts at 8:00pm. The discounted cost is $13 including a light hot meal approx 10:00pm. Dress code applies - no jeans or T-shirts. Check your emails for your invitation. You need to be on a Toronto Dance list to get the discount.

Outing report: There were 73 Toronto Dance members and 11 guests for a total of 84 attendees. The biggest Latin-Ballroom attendance to a dance outing ever was 85 attendees!

Dancing With The Stars

This extremely popular show (season 5) premieres with a 3-night event on Mon Sep 24 8:00-9:30pm on CFTO. The second episode will be Tue Sep 25 8:00-9:30pm with the first results show premiering on Wed Sep 26 8:00-9:00pm.

Watch "Ballroom For Life" stage show Fri 2007-11-16

Ballroom For Life "Ballroom For Life" is a spectacular live ballroom dance show performed by the world-renowned Elizarov Dance Theatre from Europe. There are 10 dances showcased by 17 championship couples. This event is held on Fri Nov 16 8:00pm at the Toronto Roy Thomson Hall.

Tickets are available online. Tickets cost $64.50/p to $94.50/p (in $5 increments).

A portion of the proceeds will go to support the sport of ballroom among young students.

The 10 dances are: Viennese Waltz, Waltz, Tango, Quickstep, Foxtrot, Rumba, Cha Cha, Jive, Paso Doble and Samba. The excellent dancing, magnificent choreography, and enchanting lighting, accompanied by familiar and well-loved melodies, will all guarantee an unforgettable night of elegance, romance and tradition.

Toronto Dance performed at "Rethink Breast Cancer" 2007-11-03 new

Gorete Almeida and Roland Semprie performed a Salsa routine at the Rethink Breast Cancer party, Sheraton Centre, Toronto. Gorete also taught a Cardio Salsa lesson.

Outing for Latin-Ballroom students Fri 2007-10-26

There is an official outing Fri Oct 26 to Danforth Baptist Church for Latin-Ballroom students at levels 1 to 5. Please check your emails for details. Chuan Chee will teach a level 1 review lesson 7:45-8:30pm. This is a great place to practice your dance steps in a Toronto Dance-only environment.

Outing report: There were 68 Toronto Dance members and 4 guests for a total of 72 people.

Dress code (esp for evening events): The dress code is semi-formal, so a tie and jacket is recomended for men, and proper evening attire for women. No jeans please.

Toronto Harbour Salsa cruise Sun 2007-07-29

There is an annual Toronto Harbour salsa cruise aboard the River Gambler, pier #29, 261 Queens Quay East (east of Sherbourne St). Boarding starts 5pm (don't be late! - sails as soon as it is full). Sails until 10pm. This cruise is sponsored by Plaza Flamingo.

Prices: $28 in advanced, $35 at pier. Food tickets: $10 in advanced, $15 at pier. Payment by credit card accepted. Call Plaza Flamingo at 416-603-8884 for tickets.

There is an official outing Fri July 6 to Danforth Baptist Church for Latin-Ballroom students at levels 1 to 4. Please check your emails for details. Chuan Chee will teach a level 1 review lesson 7:45-8:30pm. This is a great place to practice your dance steps in a Toronto Dance-only environment.

Outing report: There were 70 Toronto Dance members and 0 guests. This is the biggest attendance at a mid-term dance practice (especially since it is summertime)!

Alex Chang and Angela Suciu of Toronto dance and competing for the first time together at this competition. We are going as a group. Contact us if you are interested in going.

Results: Congratulations to Alex and Angela! They came in first in Pre-Bronze Standard/Ballroom (Waltz and Quickstep) and first in Bronze Latin (Cha Cha, Rumba and Jive). Both events had 6 couples in it.
