Minutes: Fall General Meeting

I Welcome and Opening Remarks - Meeting called to order by William J. MacMillan, president.
  		 
II Adoption of Agenda - Motion to adopt the agenda as printed: Harold MacMillan, seconded by Hugh MacMillan, carried.
  		 
III Minutes of previous meeting, October 29, 2005, were distributed. Acceptance moved by Jerry Stubbings, seconded by Susan Drinkwater, carried.
  		 
IV Business arising from last meeting:
Carol MacMillan's suggestion that the branch consider designing self-directed MacMillan-specific historic site day tours was discussed.
Start and end points, museums (Cornwall and Dunvegan), cemeteries (St. Andrews and St. Raphaels) and other stops were mentioned.  		 
V Treasurer's Report Harold distributed his Balance Sheet. The format of the treasurer's report was discussed, and Harold noted that the kit shop inventory was not treated as a financial asset.
Susan Drinkwater distributed copies of the current kit shop inventory and began a discussion concerning item popularity and uniqueness. Acceptance of the report was moved by Harold MacMillan, seconded by Susan Drinkwater, carried.

VI Glengarry Highland Games Report:  Good activity at the clan table
Three Membership renewals were recorded, Kit Shop sales were gratifying, and 15 individuals signed the visitors book. One notable visitor (not signed in) was Flora MacDonald who came by to chat later in the afternoon.
 		  
VII Correspondence/Communication Report:
  • House of Scotland Closing
    Regrettably, Mr. James Millar, Proprietor, has recently experienced a very serious illness which has resulted in the need to wind down the current operation of House of Scotland by the end of the year.
    All current stock is marked down 30%.
 
VIII Book Committee Report: - Harold is continuing with his painstaking manual indexing and organization of the materials.
 		  
IX Events Planning

Glengarry Highland Games - Maxville: Volunteer assistance at the Clan MacMillan table will be needed. Please contact the secretary, Jerry Stubbings, if you can offer some time on Saturday, August 4, to meet and greet visitors. (613) 830-4769
 

 
 
 
 
X New Business
  • A donation by the Branch of $50 to the Neil Huckvale Memorial Scholarship, Department of Geography, Carleton University, Ottawa, was approved unanimously.
     
  • Hugh P. MacMillan renewed his offer to the Branch of a sales commission on his book.
     
  • Morel d'Amour gave an emotional reading of Ursula MacMillan Kodala's poetry in praise of Glengarry. Morel is compiling a book of Ursula's work, much of which appeared in earlier years in the "Blue Bell" newsletter for Bell Canada employees.
     
 
XI Concluding Remarks
President Bill MacMillan expressed his thanks to all in attendance.
