Game 2, 2nd round playoff series Vs the Gloucester Rangers

Grills Outstanding in Titan 5 - 2 Victory

By: Barry Melanson

In order for a team to march through the playoffs to a championship, they must receive solid goaltending. Joel Grills was just that on Saturday night, leading his team to a hard fought 5 – 2 victory. You could feel the electricity in the building as the players stepped on to the ice, and the teams didn’t disappoint the large crowd on hand. The Titans struck just one minute into the game when Mike Moreau jammed home a rebound off a Patrick Lester shot. Gloucester were not rattled and kept coming with a heavy forecheck, hemming the Titans in their own end for long stretches. The Titans would take a 2 – 0 lead on the power play when Mitchell Melanson wired a one timer from the point on a nice pass from Linden Bahm. Zack Farris started the play with a clean face off win. Linden Bahm would extend the lead to three when he converted a Tim Rusheleau pass. Gloucester broke the goose egg on the power play when Cowick tallied from Merrett and Desjardins. Gloucester struck again on the power play when Andrew Merrett scored on a scramble. With the Titans hanging on in the third period, Shane Thompson converted a Linden Bahm pass to give them some breathing room. Thompson would seal the victory with two minutes remaining on a rocket shot from the slot. Assists on the goal went to Keith Clarke and Sam Coyne. Game 3 of this series will be played in Gloucester Sunday, March 16,2003 at the Earl Armstrong Arena.
