The numbers on the images appear to have been inscribed by the photographer himself, as they do not correspond to accession numbers used by the National Archives of Canada, nor any of the archives maintained by the Department of National Defence. The numbers are a code specific to the image, followed by the date, "15-4-45". The numbers were inscribed on the negatives, likely with black ink. The verso of the images is stamped with the RCAF Copyright stamp, as show in file G_B_631_D_VERSO.jpg.
