Schneider Pioneers of Waterloo County

Welcome to the Waterloo Co. Schneider/ Snider/ Snyder Family website.

Three Schneider brothers emigrated from Pennsylvania to Waterloo County in 1806-7, sons of Jacob Schneider (1727-1803) and Maria Hershey (1730-1798) of Lancaster County.  While many Waterloo County Sniders/ Snyders/ Schneiders descend from one these three brothers, there were also other Schneider immigrants from Germany who arrived in later years.

Christian Schneider (1758-1850) arrived in 1806 and settled in Doon.  He and his wife Elizabeth Erb (1770-1818) had 11 children.

Jacob Schneider (1764-1853), or "Old Yoch", also arrived in 1806 and settled in Bloomingdale.  He married Mary Erb (1766-1835), sister of Elizabeth.  They had 10 children.  He was the one who brought the old Schneider Family Bible to Canada.

Joseph Schneider (1772-1843) arrived a year later on May 8, 1807.  He settled in what is now downtown Kitchener with his wife Barbara Eby (1774-1843).  They had 7 children.  His old house on Queen St. is now a National Historic Site.

You can read about the ancestral line of these brothers back to the 1500's in Switzerland by viewing the Schneider Family Bible family register.

I descend from Christian along two lines, via his sons Jacob C. and Samuel.
