Chinese Button Quail:
The Chinese Painted or Button Quail (coturnix chinensis) or (excalfactoria chinensis) is the most popular Quail found in aviaries around the world, having many advantages over other species. It is colorful with a black and white face, a slate blue breast, and bright chestnut underparts, and being small it eats mainly mixed seed, and can be housed in a limited area. They are small, plump ground birds with stubby tails. Please read the documents below for more information. Some pictures of adults and babies we have bred are below.
Sexing button quail for the most common mutations, the males have a bright white "bib" and more vibrant markings as shown in the 2 pictures below, including a reddish underside. Hens are much more muted in color. The bib is the part under the chin.

Babies approx. 4 days old in Aquarium with plastic enclosure to hide in. Heating pad on medium under aquarium to provide warmth. You should also provide a heat lamp above like a lizard lamp to provide all around warmth since they do not have a parent to keep them warm. They require 85 to 90 degrees F. temperature for their first few weeks. The bottom is a fine sandpaper so they do not slip and get splayed legs. It should be fine enough so it does not harm their feet.
