Weather update, 7:33pm Saturday. We had a great day flying today, until the rain hit at about 12:45. There are a few kids left over, I committed to fly Sunday at 10am.

If conditions are not safe, or enjoyable, we will not fly. It is too soon to be certain what the

weather will have in store Saturday Morning. If we get rained out Sat Morning, we will try again same time Sunday Morning.

We will be at the airport in any case, if for nothing other than a coffee and if the weather is co-operative, to fly.

The basics: we need a minimum of 5 miles visibility, and 1500' above ground level ceiling (base of the clouds)*

No thunderstorms, or high winds, light rain is ok, depending on visibility, and ceiling.

Oshawa Airport has a weather cam The weather observation is at the top of the photo, and looks like this:* OSHAWA/OSHAWA MUNI/ON ** *SPECI CYOO 121730Z AUTO 07005KT 3SM RA BR OVC007 17/16 A2995 RMK SLP144 DENSITY ALT 700FT PCPN 3.0MM PAST HR= * ** *This example says: Special Observation, CYOO ( OSHAWA), 12th day, @ 17:30 Zulu time ( subtract 4 hours, converts to 1:30pm. ) Automatic observation ( made by machine, not a person ) wind is from 070 degrees ( NE ) at 5 knots ( 10 km/hr) visibility is 3 statute miles in rain, mist, overcast at 700 feet, temp is 17c, dewpoint is 16c, ....... a more complete guide is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/METAR* **

There will be a YOUNG EAGLES DAY  held on Saturday June 11, 2011.  This involves children aged 8-17 years. They are given an instructional lecture on the basics of flight, and the workings of an airplane. They are then taken on a flight around Oshawa, and given a certificate for their experience. This is an International program run by the Experimental Aircraft Association, (EAA) to provide a motivational aviation experience, focusing on providing a demonstration flight in an airplane.
The pilots donate their time and aircraft, there is NO CHARGE for this program.
To date 1,597,883 children have participated worldwide, over 6500 in Oshawa.
Applicants must be pre-registered, due to the limited number of flights available.

Application Forms may be picked up at the Terminal Building at the North Field, off Taunton road, starting on Monday  May 2nd Photo-copies are not allowed.
Completed forms, signed by the Parent or Guardian, should be deposited in the drop box in the Terminal Building, or mailed to:
85 Loscombe Dr, Bowmanville, L1C 3S8, no later than June 1st. You will be contacted by phone or email if you included it on the application, during the week,  June 7th, to June 10th to advise you what time to have your child at the airport. In the event you miss our phone call, please send an email  or call 905-697-2577.
