Death of Mr. Wm. W. Gallinger
A very highly respected citizen of the town, Mr. Wm. Walter Gallinger, died on Thursday, the 11th instant., at the Cornwall General Hospital. He met with an accident a couple of weeks ago in the Paper Mill. Having his arm crushed. Pyema poisoning developed, causing his death. The deceased, who was in his fiftieth year, was born in the Township of Cornwall. He is survived by his wife and five sons and one daughter, Elbert of Brockville; Herbert of Dunnville, Hugh, Simeon and Cecil and Miss Etta, at home. Besides his family he leaves his aged widowed mother, Mrs. Wm. Gallinger of Cornwall, four brothers and two sisters - Simeon and Kenneth and Mrs. David Anderson of Watertown, NY; Benjamin, Darby and Mrs. F. Gillie of Cornwall.
The funeral took place on Sunday last from his late residence to Woodlawn Cemetery. The Service was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Reid, pastor of the Baptist Church and Ensign Yost of the Salvation Army. The pallbearers were four brothers of the deceased; Messrs. Benjamin, Simeon, Kenneth and Darby Gallinger. Among the relatives present from a distance were the brothers from Watertown, NY, the sons, Elbert of Brockville and Herbert of Dunnville, Mr. F. Spain, and Mr. and Mrs. F. Gillie, Gates Ajar from Finishing Department, Toronto Paper Mfg., Co., sprays, Fawthrop Bros. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Locey, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Franklin, Misses Mae Earle and Vera James, Mrs. Philip Helmer, Mrs. Valance, Mrs. Battershill, Baraca Class Baptist Church; cut flowers, Ketteth Gallinger and family, Simeon Gallinger and family, Benjamin Gallinger and family, Evelyn and Harold GAllinger. Mr. and Mrs. J. Rankin. Mr. and Mrs. Clinton smith. The deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family.

Mrs. Alvin Upper - It is with sincere regret that the death is announced of
Mrs. Alvin Upper, which occurred at the home of her husband; 19 Gloucester Street
on Sunday last. The deceased lady was a daughter of the late Hugh Fitzpatrick,
and was born in Cornwall Township 59 years ago. Her maiden name was Delilah
A. Fitzpatrick. The illness which caused her death was of several weeks duration
and was born with true Christian fortitude. The late Mrs. Upper was twice married,
her first husband being the late Walter Gallinger. She spent most of her life
in Cornwall and was held in very high esteem by all who knew her and her death
is deeply regretted by a wide circle of friends, who wympathize with the relatives
in their bereavement. She is survived by her husband, five sons and one daughter,
Mrs. Percy Anger, Pasadena, Cal; Elbert Gallinger, Cornwall; Herbert Gallinger,
Ottawa; Hugh and Cecil Gallinger of Kenora; S.G. Gallinger Island Falls. The
funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon from her husband's residence to Woodlawn
Cemetery and was largely attended showing the esteem in which the deceased was
held and the sympathy felt for the family. The service was conducted by Rev.
Hugh Munroe, pastor of St. John's Church, and the lodge was conducted by Rev.

Lodge No 336 LOBA of which the deceased was a member, was conducted by officers

"ALVIN M. UPPER RETIRED OVERSEER, DIES LAST NIGHT
An employee of Canadian Cottons Limited for 45 years, for most of which time
he filled the position of yard overseer at the Canada Mill, Alvin Morgan Upper
died at the home of a son, Leslie Upper, 316 Water Street East, at 7:30 o'clock
Wednesday night.
Mr. Upper was born in Allenburgh,Ont., 74 years ago July 11. As a young man
he came to Cornwall and had been employed steadily at the Canada Mill until
11 years ago, when he retired. He was one of the best known and most highly
esteemed residents of Cornwall and many old friends will regret to learn of
his death. He was a member of St. John's Presbyterian Church during the more
than 50 years of Residence here.
He is survived by two sons and five daughters--Malcom Upper, candidate in Stormont
county for the C.C.F. in the recent provincial election, and Leslie Upper both
in Cornwall; Mrs. Jack Humphreys, Oshawa, Ont.; Mrs. Hugh Gallinger, Fort William,
Ont.; Mrs. Arthur Gray, Timmins, Ont.; Mrs. Crowe, wife of Major Harry J. Crowe,
of the S.D. and G. Highlanders, training Centre 32, Peterborough, Ont.; and
Mrs. Carson LaRose, Montreal, He also leaves a sister Mrs. A. McCaskill, Montreal.
The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon, service being held at 2:30 o'clock
at the home of his son, Leslie Upper, 316 Water street East, conducted by Rev.
G.S. Lloyd, minister of St. John's Presbyterian Church. Burial will be made
in Woodlawn cemetery.
TRIBUTE IS PAID TO MEMORY OF ALVIN M. UPPER
Many old friend assembled at the home of Leslie Upper, 316 Water Street East,
Saturday afternoon, to pay tribute to the memory of his father Alvin M. Upper,
by attending his funeral held to Woodlawn cemetery.
Mr.Upper died at the home of Leslie Upper on Wednesday evening. He has been
in failing health for some time, but his condition became more serious two days
before his death.
The service at the home and graveside was conducted by Rev. G.S. Loyd M.A.,
B.D., minister of St. John's Presbyterian Church of which Mr. Upper had been
a member. Hymns sung during the service at the home were "Rock of Ages"
and "Abide with Me".
Pall bearers were George Hossister, Joseph McCutcheon, Robert Bonneville, John
Carr, Jack Graham and William M. Munroe.
Attending the funeral from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Humphreys, of
Oshawa, Ont., and their son Alvin Humphreys, of the R.C.A.F., Victoriaville,
Que.; Mrs. Hugh Gallinger, Fort William, Ont.; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gray, Timins,
Ont.; Mrs. Carson Larose and Mrs. Helen Gamble, Peterborough, Ont.; Mac McCaskill,
Montreal; James Droppo and son Albert Droppo, Waddington, N.Y.; Mrs. Ronald
Wiseman, Finch.
Many were present from Somerstown, finch and other points in the district.
Lovely floral tributes were placed on the casket by relatives and friends. The
family received a great many telegrams letters and cards of sympathy., showing
the wide-spread regret felt at Mr. Upper's death."
