Psychologists see people of all
ages, from very young children to older adults. Many people are seen by
themselves, but a couple or even a whole family may come for help.
Psychologists also work with groups of people with similar problems.
A treatment session with a psychologist usually lasts about one hour. During
treatment, the psychologist works with people to better understand their
problems and find ways to resolve them. Psychological testing may also be
carried out to provide additional diagnostic information.
It is difficult to make a general rule about how long treatment will take, as
each case is different. Some problems may be sorted out in just a few
sessions, but others take longer.
