2008年6月,北京理工大学出版社出版了《哈佛图书馆墙上的训言》("ALLOCUTIONS ON THE WALL OF THE HARVARD UNIVERSITY LIBRARY")一书。

Veritas.

.Enter to grow in wisdom;
Depart to serve better thy country and thy kind.

"3. Thought is already is late, exactly is the earliest time."

5. Time the study pain is temporary, has not learned the pain is life-long. "Time the study"

"6...is lacks diligently" 是什么英语?"is lacks"是什么语法?

10. Only has compared to the others early, diligently diligently, can feel the successful taste. " diligently diligently"

14. The dog equally study, the gentleman equally plays. dog 单数, study复数

"20. Has not been difficult, then does not have attains"

13.Now the Halazi mobility will become tomorrow's tears. "Halazi mobility"

17.Representatives income level of education.

18. End the day will not come again.

20. Not difficult, it nil.

This moment will nap, you will have a dream; But this moment study, you will interpret a dream.

"圆梦" 是 ” dream fulfilled"; "interpret a dream" 是“解梦。”

3. Thought is already is late...

6. Studies this matter, lacks the time, but is lacks diligently.

Today does not walk, will have to run tomorrow.

Looks like they finally took it down after I wrote them three times. But they never acknowledged having received my message. I assume they must have. None of the messages left on their BBS, requesting them to take it down, showed up.)

  20. Not difficult, it nil.

This one says it is "engraved" on the wall of the Harvard Library.

Harvard Library at 4:30 a.m. rises from the ashes!

This time it is accompanied by an even more hilarius, if not outrageous text.
It appears on more than 20000 blogs in Sina alone!

In English, it means:

Hardly anyone talks in the Harvard cafeteria. Students, after sitting down with their pizza and coke, throw their coats causally onto the floor, and will then read or write notes while eating. You will never see any student eating without studying, or engaging in idle chatter..Harvard students don't wear nice clothes or put on make-ups. No one loiters around. There are only hurried footsteps...

==========

I cannot visualize Harvard students wearing Mao jackets and walking around like zombies in a Gulag, can you?

Utter nonsense! But sadly, quite a lot of people believe it, and even defend it with tooth and nail!

When someone pointed out the absurdity, the Blogger retorted:

Are you of Harvard?
Have you been to Harard?
Are you qualified to make these comments?
Does what you say has any meaning?

When the commentator replied that he had been to Harvard six times, the Blogger said, " so what? Even if you been there 600 times, it doesn't prove a thing...."

Resurgence of the fake article “Harvard Library at 4:30 a.m.”

Back to the main article

Despite news media reports[1][2][3], Harvard Library’s official clarification, and confession of the author of the fake book, Allocution on the wall of Harvard University Library, that the “Harvard Library Mottoes/ Harvard Library at 4:30 a.m.” is a fabrication, the “Harvard Library Mottoes/ Harvard Library at 4:30 a.m.” has returned with a vengeance in Mainland China, in particular, the SINA Blog space, where it is being “re-paste” over 30 times a day[4] under various titles and packaging. The endorsement by several bloggers with huge following also contributed to the rapid spread.[4b]

On Nov 22nd, 2011, Mr.Yue, CEO of New Oriental School, sent out an email to “all the staff” recommending such an article. By the time he sent out a notification that the “Mottoes “ weren’t true, it was too late. Several of his teachers have put it up on their blogs and Weibo (China’s version of Twitter).[5]

The article describes Harvard students as serious hardworking, but joyless, folks. They do not wear nice clothes, put on no makeup, do not talk in the cafeteria but eat and study, and walk around campus with a heavy heart. The author cleverly interweaves true facts (the on-site visit by a CCTV reporter and her interview with one Chinese student and a Chinese professor) with fabrication ( Twenty mottoes on the walls of “the” Harvard Library, zombish Harvard students, and two pictures showing two libraries packed with students at “4:30 a.m.”(sic).)

In English, it mens:

Hardly anyone talks in the Harvard cafeteria. Students, after sitting down with their pizza and coke, throw their coats causally onto the floor, and will then read or write notes while eating. You will never see any student eating without studying, or engaging in idle chatter..Harvard students don't wear nice clothes or put on make-ups. No one loiters around. There are only hurried footsteps...

==========
