David West, CFA, FCSI, has spent his entire career in the investment industry.  He began that career at the Canadian Securities Institute working for nine years as Director of the Canadian Securities Course.  That was followed by another six years at the CSI in increasingly more senior positions, including the development and launching of the new Canadian Investment Management (CIM) Program.  The CIM Program is the proficiency requirement for registration as a portfolio manager in Canada, and the CSI’s most advanced program.

After the CSI, David joined Foran Financial Institute as Vice President, where he developed new programs and taught a wide variety of investment courses all across Canada.  That led to a position at a buy-side investment management firm, where he co-managed both high-net-worth individual portfolios and four trust-type mutual funds.

Since 2000, David has been actively engaged as a writer on various investment topics, and as a lecturer providing investment courses and services to major financial institutions.  He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Wilfrid Laurier University in 1983, has been a Chartered Financial Analyst designation holder since 1986, and earned the Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI) designation in 1992.

Today David heads up West Investment Consulting, which specializes in two areas: a consulting practice and an investment lecturing practice. He has just started up a blog as well, which he hopes many visitors to this site will also contribute to.
