The Harris government recently admitted that, after studying the issue, they had decided not to privatize Toronto's convention centre. Put simply, they realized that it was much more effective as a non-profit public enterprise. The Tories have reached a similar conclusion about most of the other public enterprises they wanted to privatize.
The moral of the story? The ideology of privatization does not always stand up to practical scrutiny. Some enterprises belong in government hands, because that is where they are most effective. If even the Harris Conservatives have to admit this fact, you know it is indisputable.
