The new water tanks

Jenny and Nick Coghlan, the previous owners, told us to research more water capacity. The new engine weighed about 150 pounds less. We thought the best place would be the bottom of the cockpit lockers. They would flatten the floor of the locker. They would have to be strong as we would store equipment. First we mocked up the tank in cardboard. Lots of times! It is easier when there is nothing in the boat. They are placed in the locker through the cockpit floor. The limits are the height of the tank that can be scooped under the floor and the length of the cockpit floor opening.  TankPattern2.jpg (37822 bytes)
The top and sides were made first. It would have been difficult to do the bottom as it would twist. Tank1.jpg (42690 bytes)
The finished top and sides. Note the baffle in the middle. The holes are for cleaning. The corners are filleted with micro balloons. The bottom is two layers of 5/32" plywood laminated on. The straight sides had a gluing edge of solid wood. The curve edges were then reinforced with fibreglass tape. The 1/2" plywood did not have enough gluing surface to be strong.  Tank3.jpg (48540 bytes)
