Welcome to Barbara Fradkin's Web Page!

Barbara Fradkin is a retired Ottawa psychologist and award-winning author whose work with children and families provides much of the insight and inspiration for her complex psychological stories. She has an affinity for the dark side, and her compelling stories haunt several anthologies and magazines, including the Ladies Killing Circle series.

Her eight detective novels feature the impetuous, quixotic Ottawa Police Inspector Michael Green, whose passion for justice and love of the hunt often interfere with family, friends and police protocol. Fifth Son and Honour Among Men won back-to-back Arthur Ellis Awards for Best Novel in 2005 and 2007! Inspector Green's latest chilling challenge, Beautiful Lie the Dead , is a story about love and all its complications.

Breaking News!

The Ladies Killing Circle is thrilled to announce the release of a mini ebook of seven rare and out-of-print short stories from their first anthology. Little Treasures is available on Kindle and other e-readers. Barbara's story, "Secrets of the Night", is her very first published work, but it stands the test of time!

In February 2011, Napoleon & Company, the publisher of the Inspector Green series, was bought by Dundurn Press, another Canadian publisher based in Toronto, which has a broad spectrum of books. The Green books and the rest of RendezVous Crime's line of award-winning mystery fiction will continue to be published by Dundurn under the RendezVous Crime imprint. In the current chaotic and rapidly-changing book publishing industry, this is wonderful news, and Barbara is looking forward to working with the staff at Dundurn. She is currently hard at work on the first draft the ninth Inspector Green novel, The Whisper of Legends, which is set in the dramatic world heritage wilderness of the Nahanni River in Canada's Northwest Territories.

Barbara is also very excited about a brand new writing endeavour, a short novel entitled The Fall Guy, just published in April 2011 by Orca Books as part of their Rapid Reads series. With a rural setting based on Sharbot Lake, Ontario where her cottage is, and a varied array of characters led by handyman/ inventor Cedric Elvis O'Toole, it provides a whole new arena for crime and misadventure. Enough for a new series, in fact. You can check out the cover and more details on The Fall Guy page and at Rapid Reads
