About Galetta Nurseries

Surrounded by pine forest and spring-fed ponds, we provide a relaxed environment where you can chat to our staff, browse through the plant displays, and relax while you choose exactly the right plants for your home.

Location wasn’t even in our minds twenty years ago when we bought an abandoned gravel quarry and started a pine plantation. Today, the old quarry has been transformed into a unique setting for our nursery.

Our specialties….

Our specialty is hardy roses. We test all varieties on our farm before we sell them to the public, and if a rose won't survive winter in our fields here in Zone 4, we won't sell it.

What’s in this Web site?

Lots and lots of information about plants that are hardy in the Ottawa area. There are sections on trees, shrubs, evergreens, perennials, and lots on our specialty: hardy roses.

The information on this site was developed over many years of testing plants. You're welcome to use any material in the site for personal purposes, but if you wish to use it for commercial purposes, or to distribute it to others, please ask first.

Where are all the pictures??

We've tried to pack our site full of information, but there aren't (yet) a lot of pictures. Why? Because lots of pictures can really slow a site down…. . and we find that gardeners would rather have information than slow access.
