Me A Drummer:

Me a drummer?? lt all started back when l was about 11 years old. Our neighborhood had a local garage band. l was fascinated by the drummer, he played on a set of Stewart drums. After watching the band practice over the next couple years, l decided it was the instrument for me.

Once l started grade seven, the music program at school allowed me to start my dream of playing. They had a 1967 Ludwig Acrolite snare drum, l loved the sound. Just recently l was able to acquire one from a local music shop. After playing the snare for about 6 months, the school added a bass drum, high hat and ride cymbal for me. As for learning my chops, much of my time was consumed playing along with records to achieve good timing, listening to all types of drummers and trying to develop a style of my own. The only formal training l had was a drum teacher for about two months, but mostly l was self taught. My main mentor was lan Paice of Deep Purple, who had the greatest influence on me. Thirty years later l still enjoy the drums more than ever.

Deep Purple drummer lan Paice and l at a meet and greet in Toronto Feb.2004. What a pleasure it was to meet this humble and kind gentleman. After over 30 years playing in Deep Purple and many other bands. lan just keeps getting better. Check out Deep Purples website by clicking here
