Ottawa-based Venezuelan Folkloric Dance Group

Approximately one decade ago, a group of young Venezuelans living in Ottawa, Canada came together and formed the folkloric dance group Churun Meru with the objective of keeping and promoting their rich musical heritage.   Since its beginnings the group has performed at several events, including the Carnival of Cultures, Dragon Boat and Canada Day celebrations.  Over the past eight years, Pedro Diaz has been the group’s Director, raising its exposure outside of Ottawa with performances in Montreal and Kingston, among others.  Churun Meru’s success is largely due to the dedication of its dancers who give countless hours to rehearsal, travel and performances because of their love of the Venezuelan culture.
