Champlain in Huronia

In 1615, having accompanied 3 Recollet missionaries into Huronia, Champlain joined a war party in yet another encounter with the Iroquois. He used the opportunity to continue his explorations and travelled with the Huron warriors past Allumettes Island to the Mattawa River and then on to Lake Nipissing. From there, they continued to Lake Huron where Champlain was then taken to Lake Ontario.

Somewhere along the south shore of Lake Ontario in present-day New York State, the party engaged an Iroquois village. However, the promised reinforcements failed to arrive and the attack was a failure. Champlain was wounded during the battle and the Hurons escaped, taking Champlain back home with them.
