Rick Bedard's OSS modification:

Herb,
Thanks for this great design. I cut out the parts for two after work one evening, then the following weekend played holder, helper and clean-up man for my nine year old. Everything went together great. He really enjoyed building and rowed from dawn to dusk with only food breaks the first day at the lake. "ICEBERG" is his first rowing experience, and truly "his" boat.
Made two changes;
1. Reversed the bevels on the transom putting the cleats on the outside, this made it much easier for my son to glue, clamp and screw.
2. Slit to the center hole orange "Fun Noodle" swim floaty and slipped it over the gunwales, secured with zip ties for extra buoyancy (read over protective dad). My 60# kid sitting next to the side. bearing down with all his weight could not put the rail under.
The second boat, "Mist", was built for any other kid who wanted to learn to row while we were there. Often there were two kids in each boat, one rowing and one with a water squirter.
