The One-Sheet Skiff (OSS)

This is a design of my own planning. It came about after I had built a couple of the One Man Dinghies which although a great design they were slow to build and I have come to dislike working with fiberglass tape and epoxy. This was first conceived as a father son project. My son at the time was very much into computer games and it was difficult to pry him away from the machine. Also with computers he was used to having projects move very quickly. Boat building of a traditional boat was just too slow to interest him. I have assembled this design in 4 hours and have built the complete boat in 8 hours. I am posting the plans for this project for free and ask that if you build it you send me a photo of your completed boat. Thanks.

Update: July 17, 2000 The number of One-Sheet Skiffs built this summer has almost been overwhelming. Thus far we have had OSS's built by father/son, father/daughter, mother/son, grandfather/grandson teams as well as sailing versions, side-wheel versions, electric versions etc. So I do not overload my space allotted for data storage, I will not be able to publish your project's photos. To see some of the many OSS projects check out the links further below on this page. Thanks Herb McLeod

Juan Gonzalez of San Andres island has translated the building instructions for the OSS into Spanish click here to view them. As I do not speak a word of Spanish I just have to hope they are correct.

If you have trouble following my ball point pen drawings of the One Sheet Skiff click here for a MSWord file made up by Rick Vollman (vollman@ndak.net) or check out Brent Brown's site listed below in the links.

For yet another form of OSS plans Andrew Butchart (andrewb@abutchartconsulting.com) (http://www.abutchartconsulting.com) created these .pdf and .tcw files: OneSheetSkiff.pdf OneSheetSkiff_Bits.pdf OneSheetSkiff.tcw OneSheetSkiff_Bits.tcw If these do not work talk to Andrew as he said he has checked them with a models that he has built from the drawings.
