As an artist, I am always very excited when I come across a new source of inspiration. For this reason, I welcome commissions.

"Synchronicity" was commissioned by a loyal client who did not want a representational painting in her kitchen, but wanted one of mine! We disused her colour preferences and ideas as well as those of her two daughters, who would be doing their homework under this painting. After several tries, we hit on this design which incorporates peppers, cherry tomatoes, dragonflies and darts of pure energy.

The Dolphins were done from a photograph taken on a honeymoon!  House commissions are always welcome as I can redo your landscaping free of charge! The owners of the Cobble Beach Golf club in Owen Sound bought three of my Lighthouse paintings for their new Inn and commissioned me to do their Lighthouse! The tractors nestled together in the field were a gift for a special birthday. Please don't hesitate to ask me, I'd love to work with you! -Barb

In 2007, for the Riverdale Art Walk, I created a series of posters that was so successful, I have endeavoured to continue the practice for each show.

They are printed 11x17 on heavy paper and are suitable for plaquing or simply as "fridge art'!  If you are interested in a poster, I can mail you one in a tube.

Dreaming of Venice 2011

"It's only this place, the view from this bridge, this air, this light." (Marlena deBlasi)

A bit threadbare, perhaps, Venice floats in memory under a low slung evening sky, her transparencies and reflectionsbecoming part of your dreams

Beach Walk

The beach has the power to restore us to ourselves.

A day spent watching the waves or walking along the water's edge can bring us back to our center and remind us of the wisdom that resides within us all the time.

We learn life lessons at the beach - lessons about joy, trust, simplicity, abundance, acceptance and gratitude.

It is a place to play, to dream, to explore and to simply, be.

"Live in the present - launch yourself on every wave - find eternity in each moment." (Thoreau)

Our Barn

“I know where my feet tell me they want me to go-
walkin’ on a country road.” (James Taylor)

Painting the barns, pastures and gardens of Applegate Farm and the farms of our neighbors and friends near Walter’s Falls has been a joy.

For me, painting is another way of communicating the thoughts and feelings that I have expressed in my photographs for years: the importance of home and family in light of the transience of time.

More importantly, it is a way of truly connecting with a place: of becoming part of a landscape or a corner of a garden-of merging with the light and the shadows and of breathing close to the earth; of slowing down the moment to a full stop and being in it.

Garden Gate

“With the drawing of this love
And the voice of this Calling

We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.

Through the unknown, remembered Gate
When the last of earth left to discover
Is that which was the beginning;
Quick now, here, now, always-
A condition of complete simplicity
(Costing not less than everything)

And all shall be well and
All manner of thing shall be well.”
T.S. Eliot     “ Four Quartets”

Portland Head Light

These paintings are about being
aware of the light and
being open to the truth.

Lighthouses serve to warn
of visible rocks,
inform of hidden shoals
and guide to safe harbour.

Likewise our moments of clarity, insight or
“just having a feeling about” serve as signs
and markers of truth- visible or hidden facts
that we may be avoiding.

We are reminded to pay attention:
to intuition, coincidences and signs.
When we do, we almost always learn something,
and make it into safe harbour.

Early Morning Light
French Quarter, New Orleans

“Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation)
there is one elemental truth:
that the moment one definitely commits oneself,
then Providence moves too.
A whole stream of events issue from the decision,
raising in one's favour
all manner of unforeseen incidents
and meetings and material assistance.”
“Whatever you can do, or dream you can do,
begin it.
Boldness has beauty, power and
Magic in it!'
