The Cylinders with Artist
Back to the Accessories
Nowadays, pictures of artists on vinyl and CD are common. It started in France with cut photographs pasted on the lid of cylinder boxes as shown on the three in the center and below. Later on, special labels were printed for lids as shown on the left with this very rare square box made for the "Cylindres Artistiques" and for the box itself as this Inter (Salon) Pathe Freres one from London on the right.
Here is a silver finish "De Luxe" Pathe cylinder box.
In England, Edison-Bell also issued cylinder boxes with artist pictures. Three box sizes are here represented: the lower row, the smallest, the five on the left of the upper row being medium and the sixth one the tallest one.
The top picture comes from the "Antique Phonograph: Gadgets, Gizmos & Gimmicks" book written by Timothy C. Fabrizio and George F. Paul. It can be ordered at: PHONOPHAN
