While Edison was issuing dictating machines under the name of Ediphone, Columbia issued very similar machines under the one of Dictaphone.  This very one is an early type as it still has the same arm carrier and reproducer than their type BK.  Electrically powered, it has, as shown below a rheostat to be used with several kind of distributed current of the time.
